“HAPPINESS IS TO HOLD FLOWERS IN BOTH HANDS”

New week, new plant…(happy Monday!)  I knew nothing about Dipladenias (better known as Mandevilla) until a friend gave me this blaze of pink beauty about six weeks ago.

It seems happy in its new abode, a heavy ceramic pot outside my bedroom and its flower power is second to none: it had numerous buds and maybe ten or so bright raspberry flowers but wow it bloomed fast. I counted almost fifty flowers (not including the buds) two weeks ago, and now it feels like it’s just about past its peak. But still going strong.

Anyway, if you haven’t come across it yet either, here’s more about it. I’m captivated by this gorgeous beauty.

It keeps flowering until autumn and Mandevillas come in white, pink and crimson and honestly it seems like almost every other morning a new pink trumpet has popped up.

Small pots (mine is much larger)…

Gorgeous on a small balcony or as the centrepiece of an urban patio, Mandevillas adore warmth and sunlight but don’t like full-on sun or over-watering. And if you have a trellis, they love them!

Bring it inside on the first chilly autumn day and rehome it – until the days get brighter and warmer again – by a bright window.

Fallen flowers (even when dry they’re a rich dusky pink)

Dramatic colour contrasts, neon pinks in a forest of dark leafy greens…

Lipstick shade inspiration…?

Wishing you a happy week.
