GREEN READING: 4 BOOKS FOR THE BEDSIDE TABLE THIS SPRING

Things to make our hearts sing: spring popping up outside, flower by flower, a change in the light, and more light…

It feels like a long time since we last saw the first tulips of the season but the signs are sure that sunnier days are coming.

I’ve been watching a blackbird in my garden this week, the way it runs across the lawn like it’s late for work, it never changes its outfit (or has to decide what to wear) and its food and rent are free. Free as a blackbird. And it doesn’t put up with pushy magpies twice its size!

Andy Beer’s Every Day Nature, peppered with his own personal plant and bird observations through the seasons is a lovely easy read, and rather like a diary it’s a book you can pick up and put down on 30 minute tea break. If you’ve never been great at naming birds but want to be (I recognise their songs and calls but am not so good with names) you’d enjoy this book I think. Charming illustrations, too.

Staying close to nature is a tonic for the soul (as 2020 taught us) and Emma Mitchell’s The Wild Remedy: How Nature Mends Us – A Diary is exactly that.

Meanwhile, Mark Welford and Stephen Wicks’ Flower Arranging is a feast of flowers-on-pages, replete with nature’s mini artistic masterpieces, and such a beautiful book for this time of year especially with all the flowers set to bloom in phases over the next two seasons.

Never have we spent more hours at home than during these ‘abnormal’ pandemic months, so every little corner of outside space becomes even more precious.

Small Garden Style breathes life and colour and greenery into even the smallest containers, so if your outside space is small, there are plenty of tips here on how to transform it.

I’d better get back to the 2021 Beauty Shortlist Awards which will be here – very soon!

I’ve been quiet on social media because there just aren’t enough hours in the day at the moment, but do check in on Tuesday 2 March for a whole day literally bursting with green, gorgeous beauty and wellness heroes.

From moonstone-infused night serums to rich, dark CBD chocolate (and coffee!) and so many incredibly good skincare formulas and award-worthy ethical brands, the awards will be as much a celebration of nature herself as they are of the beautiful winners.

The countdown to spring has started.

See you on Tuesday!
