PICK YOUR OWN ORANGES

Red’s close relative (but more fun and without the scary “red flag” feeling) orange is strong, spiritual, uplifting and not surprisingly it’s often associated with the month of August.

And when the sun weakens every winter, oranges have been used inside the home for centuries, hung on trees or as a vibrant centerpiece, symbolising balls of sun.

Sometimes I make my own natural “perfume” using Tisserand’s  sweet orange, grapefruit and lemon essential oils but you have to be a bit careful using citrus oils in the sun. So if there are citrus oils mentioned on the label of a face oil don’t use that oil during the day because of photosensitivity issues – limes, oranges, etc. can cause long-lasting burns or skin colour changes.

I was looking at Moleskine journals the other day and spotted this tangerine version and  thought it might be fun to do an orange-themed post.  I love how a bright orange ceramic bowl in an all-white modern Mediterranean villa so immediately injects a sense of warmth and fun (same with blue Moroccan or Portuguese tile designs or sea blue or turquoise cushions against a mostly white backdrop).

The orange cushions here I found on Amazon, and the other items are:

Greek brand Apivita’s intensive moisturising HAND CREAM

Italian brand Ortigia’s orange blossom SICILIA ZAGARA GIFT SOAP (Ortigia’s packaging is so sublime!!)
