5 AFFORDABLE BEAUTY BUYS YOU’LL WANT TO BUY AGAIN

I get a lot of flack from people for not doing any sponsored posts or ads as it would make such a difference to my income (yes, to be honest, as The Beauty Shortlist is my full time job these days)  – but right now, ad-free and sponsor-free feels like the right way to go. The freedom of being able to post what I really like, when I like, is a big plus for me and I’m so glad that this approach has struck a chord with, and filtered through to consumers and everyone who follows us on social media.

Basically, if it’s on The Beauty Shortlist, it’s outstanding enough to be on here,  and I, or one of the team, have tried and loved it. We hardly ever post anything we have not tested properly, unless it’s a quick “new launch” mention where we just mention dates and details but obviously have not tried the product in question yet.

The best source of new beauty and modern classics of course is our Beauty Shortlist winners, and if you know someone expecting a baby soon (maybe you!?) you’re warmly invited to join in all the excitement and unexpected surprises on THURSDAY 15 JUNE. That’s when we’ll reveal this year’s newest Mama & Baby Awards stars and the way things are going, there might be quite a few!! (Big thank you to everyone who’s already entered, yesterday was very busy and we have a smaller team of judges for these awards than for the big beauty ones so I think the toddler testers and their lovely mums will find their homes are shrinking #toomanyboxes).

Categories this year include eco clothing, gifts, babycare, bath and beauty, clever devices and wellbeing/health. Entries are already up on last year’s total, and they close in 2 weeks, so definitely get those parcels out to us ASAP because May 19th is the final deadline!

THE DETAILS

But…back to this affordable “high five” edit. I have used every one of these products more than once and keep going back to them. I’ve singled out Dr Organic’s 24 hr rescue cream because it’s light, nourishing, calming and a really nice moisturiser for summer, actually! And it’s got hemp oil in it (remember when The Body Shop launched its hemp range years ago?). I love the feel of this face cream and I’m using it this week, in fact, which reminded me to mention it today.

Barefoot SOS’s face and body rescue cream (another rescuer! …this brand was founded by a homeopathic expert) is another light, lovely one with always seems to work well when redness or irritation is present.

A Mummy and Baby fave 🙂

Pai Skincare’s Rosehip Oil is one of those all time stand-by’s which never fail. This is one of those “if you could only have ONE single oil facial oil in your handbag…” success stories (argan would be an equal first in my bag).

Rosehip is such a healing oil. Good for scars and regenerative, this oil is very wallet friendly indeed – highly recommend it. I love the golden/orangey colour and it’s saved my skin many times (this is a great oil to put on after a day at the beach, by the way, before you’re tucked up in bed after a dreamy night in a jasmine-filled, candle lit Greek taverna!)

Kinvara’s Rosehip Moisturiser was a nice find for me, some years ago. I recommended it to a friend in her 20s last summer, who had never quite found that signature moisturiser for her skin, and she came back raving about it. I’m way older than 25 and it’s one of my favourites, too. It’s light, fresh and full of naturally nourishing, healing ingredients. I like this brand and hope it’ll be available in more places, soon. Kinvara’s from the west coast of Ireland, Galway, I do love these natural Irish brands – VOYA being another beautiful one.

And of course – Weleda! Their Evening Primrose Night Cream ticks all the boxes (if you’re over 50, have a look at this range). Evening Primrose balances skin (taken internally, it helps balance hormones) and it’s rich enough without being “cloying”. Super affordable – again.

I have used 1 or 2 products and they are really good. The list you have given I will try for sure for once.

It concerns me that the PAI Rosehip Oil is in a clear bottle. Every expert warns against purchasing Rosehip Oil in a bottle that does not protect it from the light.

Yes. Miron Violett Glas (sic) bottles and Amber Bottles are definitely better, ideally, to protect against UVA rays/sunlight (and heat is bad, too, for these oils as we know!)
